Frequently asked questions
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are an exciting and relatively new way to extend the length and thickness of your eyelashes. They are applied on a lash-by-lash basis to your own eyelashes for a completely natural look.
What is the Difference in Types of Lashes?
Classic lashes- A method where 1 lash extension is glued to 1 natural lash. This method is also known as 1 to 1 or 1:1. Classic lashes are perfect for clients who already have a lot of lashes but want to add more length. Classic lashes look more natural.
Hybrid eyelash extensions (hybrid lashes) are the half way step between a classic set of eyelash extensions and a volume (Russian volume) set.
A 50/50 mixture of 1:1 lashes and the handmade fanned, volume style lashes (NOT cluster lashes popped on – this is cheating and terrible for the natural lashes!) they are stunning, texturized and give a life-like, non-uniform lash look.
Also referred to as a ‘mixed set’, they are versatile in offering a thicker, denser look than classic lashes, but without the uniformity and softness of a typical Russian volume set.
They can also be a great way to achieve that staggered look made popular by Kim Kardashian, by using longer classic extensions interspersed with shorter volume lashes. They’re perfect for anyone wanting to add a bit of extra drama to their classic set, or for anyone wanting to test out volume lashes without fully committing. They are great for anyone with naturally fine or slightly gappy lashes, whereby volume fans can be placed in sparser areas to make the lash line look fuller.
The process takes up to two hours, and just like in all our other lash sets, we completely customize the sizes and shape to suit the wearer. So (depending on your own lash condition and strength) you could have a very staggered, spiky looking staggered hybrid set, or you could have a shorter, more natural looking wispy set with less graduation in lengths.
If you’ve been thinking of upgrading your classic set, we can pretty much guarantee you will love hybrid lashes!
Volume (3D) lashes- When multiple lashes are applied to one single natural eyelash individually isolating one natural eyelash at a time. Using very thin lashes. If two eyelash extensions are applied to one natural lash it’s described as 2D, if three eyelash extensions are applied to one natural eyelash then it’s described as 3D etc.
This method is also known as Russian volume. The lash extensions used in this method are significantly thinner (Usually a 0.05 diameter lash extension is used) than the lash extensions used for the classic lash method.
Volume lashes are lighter, fluffier and give the client a fuller look. Volume lashes are prefect for clients who don't have a lot of lashes, have sparse lashes, bald spots or just want a more dramatic look without having to use a thicker lash.
Will Eyelash Extensions damage my natural lash?
When done correctly by a professional, Eyelash Extensions will not damage your natural lash. Extensions must be placed individually, not in clumps and must be separated properly in order for lashes to grow naturally. Many places do the mistake of “stacking” which cause damage to the lash by pulling them out in clusters or weighing them down causing irritation. That is why it is important that this procedure must be done by a licensed professional who’s had extensive training in Eyelash Extensions. Also, to prevent damage, do not rub, pull or pluck out any Extensions yourself. Let them fall out naturally and if you do decide you want them off sooner, allow us to remove them for you using Professional Eyelash Extension Adhesive Remover.
How long do they last?
The initial set can last for up to two months, but we recommend you come in 2 to 4 weeks after initial full set of application to replace any eyelashes that may have fallen out or extensions that have grown out. How long your eyelash extensions will last really depends on two things – how well you follow the aftercare instructions, and your own natural eyelash growth cycle.
How long is the process?
The process times vary depending on the treatment. Please see the service options for the time for your preferred appointment. Please keep in mind, the appointment times are extended to ensure that we still have time to do a great job on all clients including those with difficult lashes, dirty lashes, longer consultations, or running late etc. Appointments will generally take less time than allocated.
What can I do to prepare for this procedure?
Arrive with no make-up. If you do, as per the Terms of Service, a $10 fee will apply. Arriving make up free means that we also have more time to put more lashes on you, therefore it is in your best interest to come makeup free. Clean lashes are also incredibly important as you need a clean base in order for proper adhesion. We recommend showering before your appointment as you cannot get your lashes steamy for 24-48 hours after. This means no hot showers, so have one before your appointment. To have a more relaxed experience, avoid any caffeinated beverages before your treatment. If you wear contact lenses, you MUST take them out before your treatment to avoid dryness or irritation.
Can I wear mascara?
It is not recommended. We usually use natural gloss to high gloss shine eyelash extensions that creates the effect of using mascara. Most mascaras are oil based therefore will cause the adhesion to break up sooner. Waterproof mascara is also very difficult to remove, therefore causing extensions to clump together.
When should I get them infilled?
It is completely normal to lose lashes every single day, as every single lash is at a different stage in its lash cycle, this means that each set of lashes will vary in thicknesses Infill appointments will be necessary every 1-5 weeks to maintain the Eyelash Extensions. Everyone sheds lashes at different rates; however, we shed on average between 3-5 natural lashes per day. It is also common to lose up to 10 lashes on one eye and not the other in a day. To secure an appointment time that suits you best it is necessary to book you infill appointments in advance.
Infill times will vary due to;
- How well you look after them after each infill.
- How quickly your natural lashes grow and shed after each infill.
- How many lashes you have applied during your full set or infill appointment.
- What you deem an infill (no gaps – 2-3 week infills or sparse lashes - 3-5 weeks).
